Farmer union members staged a strong protest against Nabha police today, accusing them of failing to arrest the man involved in stealing their tractor trolleys. The key phrase “farmers clash with Nabha police” dominated the scene as tensions escalated outside the DSP’s office.
The farmers had gathered for a sit-in protest announced last week for September 22. They accused police of shielding a local political leader linked to the theft case. Protesters also demanded a fair probe into another complaint that they alleged was being ignored.
Trouble began when DSP Mandeep Kaur tried to leave her office while farmers had set up tents for their sit-in. Eyewitnesses said the protesters surrounded her vehicle, triggering a confrontation. Both sides engaged in mild baton charges. Some farmers and police sustained injuries, and several turbans were lost in the scuffle.
DSP Kaur alleged that the farmers misbehaved with her and even pulled her hair. The farmers, however, blamed police for manhandling them. Authorities confirmed that the matter is under investigation and assured that an FIR will be registered.
