Udaipur has achieved a landmark moment in Rajasthan’s sporting history with the debut of beach volleyball at the Khelo India University Games (KUIG) 2025. The tournament opened at the Mahakal Temple complex along the scenic Fatehsagar Lake, where an 800-tonne sand court—sourced from Deesa, Gujarat—was specially created by SAI in collaboration with the Udaipur Development Authority.
Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulabchand Kataria inaugurated the event on November 30, alongside Udaipur City MLA Tarachand Jain and Indian Volleyball Federation general secretary Ramanand Chaudhary. Kataria praised Udaipur’s expanding sports landscape, noting Maharana Pratap Khelgaon as Rajasthan’s largest sports village and calling for more world-class facilities.
Top university teams from across India, including several from Tamil Nadu, have begun league matches. The championship match is scheduled between Goa University and SRM University, Chennai, marking an exciting end to the state’s first-ever beach volleyball showcase.
