First Public Meet Post-Karur Stampede: Vijay Targets DMK Leadership
Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay criticised the DMK for abandoning the ideals of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai during a limited-access indoor meeting at Sunguvarchathiram in Kancheepuram district. The meeting marked Vijay’s first public engagement nearly two months after a stampede at a political rally in Karur, which he had addressed and which resulted in 41 deaths. Speaking to party workers and supporters, Vijay alleged that the DMK had deviated from Annadurai’s vision of social justice, welfare, and transparent governance, accusing the party of prioritising political expediency over public service. He emphasised the need for political parties to remain true to the principles of the founder and urged TVK members to work towards restoring these ideals in the State’s political landscape. Party sources noted that the event was symbolic, intended to rebuild Vijay’s public presence and reaffirm his leadership following the tragic Karur incident.
