Five Arrested in Manipur for Assault on Four Student Leaders
Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the alleged assault of four student leaders in Manipur’s Kakching district, police said on Friday. The arrests were made following an FIR registered at the Kakching Police Station after reports surfaced that the student leaders were attacked by unidentified persons earlier in the week. According to a police statement, two vehicles suspected to have been used in the incident were also seized for verification. The victims, affiliated with local student unions, were reportedly assaulted while returning from a meeting. The attack has triggered sharp condemnation from student bodies and civil society groups, who have demanded swift justice and stronger measures to curb rising incidents of violence in the state. Police officials stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the assault and to identify any additional suspects.
