In Bihar, the festival of democracy shines every election season. But for many elders in Bodh Gaya’s Veda Vriddha Ashram, Bihar elderly voting rights remain only a dream. Twenty-two senior citizens live here, some for over fifteen years, yet their names are missing from the voter list. They wish to vote, but without Aadhaar or voter cards, they are invisible in democracy’s record.
Shanti Devi, a widow from Patna, says she feels like voting but her name isn’t listed. Mishra Rajak shares a similar story of being forgotten first by his family, then by the government. The ashram’s director says officials never responded to repeated applications. Despite awareness drives, no officer listened.
These elders once stood proudly in long queues to vote; today, their ink-stained fingers have turned into symbols of neglect. Bihar elderly voting rights reveal the painful truth — some have the right to live but not the right to vote.
