Sardar Raghbir Singh, a former MLA from the Kapurthala Assembly constituency, served as Punjab’s Transport Minister during his political career. He was admitted to Beas Hospital for treatment, where he breathed his last. Family members confirmed that his health had declined suddenly.
A close associate of late Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Raghbir Singh remained a trusted figure in Shiromani Akali Dal politics for decades. Many leaders regarded him as one of the most loyal and grounded leaders shaped by Badal Sahib’s vision.
Popularly known as “Minister Sahib,” he earned respect for his simplicity, honesty, and accessibility. People across party lines admired his calm demeanor and deep connection with grassroots workers. He consistently prioritised public welfare over political gain.
His demise has triggered an outpouring of condolences from political leaders, social organisations, and residents of Kapurthala. Many described him as a noble-hearted leader who upheld democratic values with grace.
According to family sources, the last rites will take place after relatives arrive from abroad. Funeral details will be announced shortly.
