Former SC Judge Calls on Teachers to Promote Awareness of Local Heritage Among Students

A former Supreme Court judge has urged teachers to equip students with a strong understanding of local history and cultural heritage, stressing that such knowledge plays a vital role in shaping responsible and informed citizens. Speaking at an educational programme in Vijayawada, the judge said awareness of local traditions, historical landmarks and social movements helps students develop a sense of identity and belonging.
He emphasised that education should go beyond textbooks and examinations, encouraging teachers to connect classroom learning with the region’s cultural and historical context. This approach, he said, would instil values such as respect for diversity, social responsibility and pride in one’s roots.
The former judge also called on educational institutions to organise heritage walks, field visits and interactive sessions with historians and local experts. Teachers were encouraged to use innovative teaching methods to make learning engaging and meaningful. Such efforts, he noted, would help preserve cultural heritage while nurturing critical thinking and civic awareness among students.
