Former UP MLA Arrested in Bihar Beer Case

Former UP MLA arrested in Bihar for carrying beer

Former Uttar Pradesh MLA Dhananjay Kannaujiya was arrested in Bihar for carrying beer during the BJP campaign. He came to Bettiah to support his party’s candidate in the Bihar Assembly election. Police stopped his car during a night inspection led by Magistrate Vikas Kumar.

Officers found beer bottles inside the vehicle. Bihar has a strict liquor ban, so they registered a case under the Excise Act. Kannaujiya, once an MLA from the Balthara Road seat in Ballia district, faced immediate legal action. Police also seized his car.

Kannaujiya and his driver, Dilip Singh, appeared before the court the next day. The court sent both of them to jail under judicial custody. The arrest drew attention to Bihar’s zero-tolerance liquor policy, especially during election season.

The former MLA had planned to campaign for BJP but ended up behind bars instead. The case shows Bihar’s tough enforcement of liquor laws.
