France and Canada Decline Participation in Trump’s Gaza “Board of Peace” Plan
Several countries have reacted carefully to former US President Donald Trump’s proposed Gaza plan, which includes setting up a “Board of Peace” to manage post-war reconstruction and security in Gaza. France has said it will not join the board. A source close to President Emmanuel Macron said the board’s charter goes beyond Gaza and could clash with the role of the United Nations, which France supports strongly.
Canada has also made its position clear, saying it will not pay for a seat on the board. Canadian officials added that no request for payment has been made so far.
The plan suggests a wider role for the board in regional matters, not just Gaza, which has raised concerns among several countries. These reactions show that key US allies are hesitant about supporting initiatives that bypass existing international frameworks.
