Fresh Bay of Bengal Cyclone Likely; Tamil Nadu Put on Heavy Rainfall Alert

A fresh cyclone is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal, prompting a heavy rainfall alert across Tamil Nadu for the week, according to weather officials. The system is currently developing over the southeast Bay of Bengal and is expected to intensify in the coming days.
Once it strengthens into a cyclonic storm, it is likely to be named Cyclone Ditwah, a name contributed by Yemen under the cyclone-naming protocol followed by countries in the region.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of widespread moderate to heavy rainfall, with isolated areas expected to receive very heavy showers. Coastal districts such as Chennai, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, and Nagapattinam may experience strong winds and intense spells of rain.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, and authorities are preparing for possible flooding, waterlogging, and disruptions. Disaster response teams are on alert as the system moves closer to the coast.
