She explained that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) now impacts every corner of daily life, making essentials more affordable.

She noted that in 2017, only 66 lakh businesses were under GST. Today, the number has grown to 1.5 crore, thanks to the government’s transparent and simplified policies.
The Finance Minister pointed out that 99% of goods that were earlier in the 12% GST slab now fall under the 5% category. This change has directly reduced prices for consumers. She highlighted that the system not only helps buyers but also encourages more sellers and manufacturers to join.
Sitharaman said gross GST collection has risen from ₹7.18 lakh crore in 2018 to ₹22.08 lakh crore in 2025. She emphasized that reforms have created direct benefits for citizens while also strengthening both state and central government revenues.
