Khagaria, Bihar: The crisis of Ganges erosion in Khagaria has pushed many villagers to protest. Several residents started a hunger strike to protect their homes and farmland. The river continues to cut into the riverbank and destroy land every year.
Locals say Ganges erosion in Khagaria has already swallowed large areas of farmland. The river now flows very close to several houses. Many families depend on farming for their income. They fear they may soon lose both land and shelter.
Villagers say they have asked officials many times for help. However, they claim the administration has not taken strong steps. Because of this, people began a hunger strike to demand urgent action.
Protesters want the government to start anti-erosion work immediately. They also want support and compensation for families at risk. Riverbank erosion remains a major problem in this part of Bihar.
