The sudden explosion created panic across the market.
The blast sent flames and thick smoke into the air. Several people standing nearby suffered burn injuries. Some victims fell on the road and cried in pain as shopkeepers rushed to help them.
Local residents quickly informed the police and health officials. Ambulances reached the spot within minutes. Doctors admitted the injured to a nearby health centre and later shifted serious cases to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Bettiah.
Women and children were among the injured. Police have started an investigation and asked vendors to follow gas safety rules strictly.
