Gaurav Gogoi Pakistan Links became the centre of a fresh political storm after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made strong allegations on Thursday. Sarma claimed that Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi and his family have links with Pakistan and said he would soon present concrete proof before the public.
Responding to questions about a viral BJP video and the use of the word “Paijan” on social media, the Chief Minister said he had no knowledge of online claims. However, he firmly stated that Gogoi and his family had connections with Pakistan. Sarma repeated that he had earlier accused Gogoi and his wife, Elizabeth Colburn, of alleged links with Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI.
He said a Special Investigation Team was formed to probe the matter. The SIT submitted its report to the state government in September last year. Sarma claimed the findings raised serious concerns related to national sovereignty. He added that the case would soon be handed over to a central agency to ensure an impartial investigation.
Gaurav Gogoi rejected all allegations. He described the claims as a “cheap film” and said the people of Assam would not believe them. Gogoi maintained that such accusations would have no political impact.
The controversy has intensified political debate in Assam. Public attention now remains fixed on the promised evidence and the next course of investigation.
