Girl eloped with Muslim lover returned home after being purified in temple in Munger district of Bihar, sparking fresh discussion on interfaith relationships and social pressure. The young woman had earlier left her home with a Muslim man and married him in Delhi, according to local sources.
After she went missing, her family filed a complaint with the police. The matter later reached the court, where the woman appeared and recorded her statement. She told officials that she wanted to return to her parents for now.
Once she came back to Munger, members of a Hindu organisation took her to a local temple. There, she participated in a religious ritual described as a “purification” ceremony. Several local residents were present during the event.
The police confirmed that they conducted a medical check-up and completed legal formalities. Officials then handed the woman over to her family. The man she married has not been arrested, and no new criminal case has been registered so far.
Local authorities said they are monitoring the situation to avoid tension. The incident has drawn attention to how personal choices, family pressure, and community beliefs often clash in cases of interfaith relationships in parts of the country.
