Govt Introduces ₹1.5 Lakh Cashless Treatment for Road Accident Victims, Incentive for Helpers
The Union government is set to launch a new cashless treatment scheme offering coverage of up to ₹1.5 lakh for road accident victims, aimed at providing timely medical assistance and reducing the financial burden on affected families. Under the scheme, treatment expenses in empanelled hospitals will be directly settled with medical providers, eliminating the need for victims to make upfront payments.
In a related initiative, the government plans to introduce a cash award of ₹25,000 for Good Samaritans who promptly assist accident victims by rushing them to hospitals. Officials said this measure is intended to encourage public participation in emergency response and promote a culture of social responsibility.
Authorities highlighted that road accidents remain a major cause of fatalities and injuries in India, and timely medical intervention is critical for saving lives. The cashless treatment and Good Samaritan incentives are expected to strengthen emergency care infrastructure and enhance overall road safety across the country.
