The Telangana government asked municipal officials to study new options for the GHMC structure. They told officials to check how Delhi and Mumbai manage their urban bodies. The government will decide on changes to the GHMC Act after receiving this report. A recent merger of 27 local bodies near the ORR created fresh debate on the future form of GHMC.
A single mega corporation may cause major administrative strain. Officials fear delays due to poor coordination. Political focus on core urban zones may trigger frequent disputes. Such tensions can affect public services and civic planning.
Another idea suggests dividing the GHMC into East and West zones. Earlier proposals for separate Hyderabad and Secunderabad corporations did not move forward. Cyberabad and Rachakonda areas are expanding fast. Officials are unsure whether two corporations can offer better governance or create more difficulty.
Some experts want one corporation for each Lok Sabha seat inside the ORR. The areas include Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Malkajgiri and Chevella. They say this model can improve service delivery and tax collection. Due to recent mergers, officials expect GHMC elections to face delays until new structures are ready.
