The Madhya Pradesh Education Department has issued a strict order linking government teachers’ November salaries to their e-attendance records. The Gwalior District Education Officer announced that teachers will be paid only for the days they marked attendance on the “Hamare Shikshak” app. Those who failed to log attendance will face salary cuts.

This action comes amid ongoing legal proceedings in the Jabalpur High Court, where teachers have challenged the e-attendance system. The state government recently submitted a detailed response, rejecting allegations of poor network connectivity and concerns about data privacy. It stated that the attendance app has a certified data safety clearance, and there is no risk of teachers’ personal information being leaked.

The government also cited earlier High Court rulings from 2014 and 2017, in which e-attendance for state employees was upheld as valid. Based on these precedents, the state has requested dismissal of the new petitions.

Teachers, however, argue that network issues still affect rural areas and plan to file a rejoinder. The High Court has scheduled the next hearing for next week.
