A shocking incident at a private school in Jamnagar, Gujarat, has triggered outrage after a sports teacher allegedly cut a girl student’s hair with a blade for not applying oil. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning at Swaminarayan Gurukul School, leading to the immediate dismissal of the accused teacher following a parental complaint.
According to school authorities, the physical education teacher punished the student by trimming her hair despite no official rule requiring students to apply oil. Director of Education Shashiben Das confirmed that the teacher acted without permission and was terminated after a staff meeting. “We have guidelines for hair length, but this was not about cutting hair. The teacher took this action independently, which is unacceptable,” Das said.
The student’s mother, Anjaliben Gandha, condemned the act and criticized the culture of harsh punishments in schools. “Children are often punished for trivial issues. They even fear the name of school because of strict and unnecessary penalties,” she told reporters.
In a related case, a similar complaint emerged from Navanagar Government High School, where another teacher allegedly cut a student’s hair under comparable circumstances. District Education Officer Vipul Mehta confirmed that show-cause notices have been issued to both schools and inquiries have been launched to prevent such incidents in the future.
The Education Department has warned all schools in Jamnagar to enforce disciplinary measures within proper guidelines and to avoid physical punishment that could harm students. Authorities assured strict action against those found guilty.
