Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that a dedicated visa facilitation centre will soon be established in Guwahati to handle applications for over 60 countries. The initiative, in collaboration with VFS Global, aims to make visa processing more accessible for residents of Assam and the entire Northeast region.

Currently, residents of Assam often have to travel to cities like Delhi or Mumbai to submit biometric data for visas, leading to significant time and financial burdens. CM Sarma emphasized that the new Guwahati centre will reduce travel and simplify the application process, allowing applicants to complete necessary procedures locally.

While the full list of countries has not yet been disclosed, the centre is expected to cater to a wide range of nations, facilitating tourism, education, business, and other international engagements. Local stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, calling it a major step forward in improving access to global opportunities from the Northeast.

The centre is also expected to boost regional development by enhancing connectivity with countries worldwide. By streamlining visa services, Assam can promote international travel, trade, and cultural exchange, supporting both residents and businesses seeking global exposure.

Officials stated that more details, including the exact timeline for the centre’s opening and the complete list of countries covered, will be announced in the coming weeks. This initiative underscores the Assam government’s commitment to infrastructure development, citizen convenience, and global integration.

Once operational, the Guwahati visa facilitation centre will be a significant milestone for the region, strengthening Assam’s position as a hub for international travel and enhancing its connectivity with the world.
