Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has pledged to permanently resolve the long-standing land dispute in Nangal, strongly criticizing BBMB’s land claim as illegal and harmful to the city’s livelihood. Calling Nangal “the most beautiful city of Punjab and India,” Bains said protecting the homes and businesses of local residents is his foremost responsibility.
In a video message, he said that his recent interactions with elderly residents and shopkeepers revealed decades of fear and insecurity, as people constantly worry about losing their roofs and livelihood. A recent High Court order related to a shop, he added, has further highlighted the urgency of a clear and lawful solution.
Reassuring the people, Bains said, “As a son of Nangal, every home and shop here is my responsibility.” He announced that a high-level committee, including the Advocate General and senior Punjab officials, will review all land-related records to speed up the resolution process. He also plans to meet Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann next week alongside a delegation of Nangal residents.
Bains maintained that the disputed land legally belongs to the Punjab government and accused BBMB of unnecessarily harassing citizens. He said the government aims to restore residents’ rights through proper legal procedure and provide a permanent, trouble-free solution.
