Haryana Bans Gutka and Pan Masala for One Year

The Haryana government has imposed a one-year ban on the manufacture, sale, storage, and distribution of gutka, pan masala, scented tobacco, kharra, and similar products. The order, issued by Food Safety Commissioner Manoj Kumar, is aimed at curbing health risks linked to these products.

Authorities cite rising cases of oral cancer, heart disease, and lung disorders as key reasons. These products contain harmful chemicals, banned additives, and heavy metals, making them dangerous for regular users.

The ban will be enforced statewide, especially in districts like Nuh, where usage is high. Strict action will be taken against violators, including manufacturers, distributors, and sellers.

Officials will conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance. Public health departments will also launch awareness campaigns to educate people about the dangers of chewing tobacco and related substances.

This is not Haryana’s first move—similar bans have been implemented in the past but were poorly enforced. This time, the government says monitoring will be tighter and penalties more severe.

The step is part of a broader push to reduce lifestyle-related diseases and promote a healthier environment in the state.
