Haryana CM Urges Citizens to Make Cleanliness a Daily Habit

Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini at War Memorial cleanliness drive

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini emphasized the importance of making cleanliness a daily practice rather than a one-day effort. Speaking at the War Memorial, Sector 2, Panchkula, during the special Shramdaan Abhiyan – Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath, he urged citizens, youth, women, and social organizations to actively participate in keeping villages and towns clean. “Only through joint and consistent efforts will our villages, towns, and state remain clean,” Saini stated.

As part of the initiative, the CM announced a cleanliness ranking system for municipal bodies, ensuring recognition and rewards for top performers. Swachhta Mitras, who have been working tirelessly in the cleanliness drive, will also be acknowledged for their efforts.

Highlighting key measures, Saini said that nearly 1.5 lakh tonnes of waste from Panchkula’s Sector 23 dumping ground will be cleared. He also encouraged large-scale tree plantation drives, noting that since 2014, Haryana has planted over 18 crore saplings, with a target of 2.1 crore saplings this year.

Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, Haryana has achieved open defecation free status since 2018, with 14 urban bodies certified ODF++, 39 as ODF+, and 34 as ODF. More than 7.3 lakh toilets have been constructed in rural homes, along with about 6,000 toilets in public areas, strengthening sanitation across the state.

The CM stressed that sustained joint efforts are essential to maintain cleanliness in every village and city. The Urban Local Bodies Department also pledged to make every city in Haryana among the cleanest within six months.

Earlier, Saini paid floral tributes to martyr Major Sandeep Sankhla and sought blessings from his mother, Manju Kanwar, before participating in the campaign. The event witnessed participation from senior officials, civic leaders, and Swachhta Mitras, reflecting a strong commitment toward a cleaner Haryana.
