Health Alert: Telangana Doctors Warn as Scrub Typhus Cases Rise in Andhra Pradesh
Health authorities have raised concerns as Telangana doctors call for precautions amid scrub typhus spike in Andhra Pradesh. The infection, caused by the bacterium Orientia tsutsugamushi, spreads through bites from infected larval mites, commonly called chiggers.
Doctors advise residents to avoid areas with dense vegetation and to wear protective clothing while working outdoors. They also suggest using insect repellents and checking for chigger bites regularly. Early diagnosis is crucial, as untreated scrub typhus can lead to serious complications including organ failure.
Hospitals in border districts of Telangana have started screening patients showing fever, rashes, or body aches for scrub typhus. Health officials said prompt treatment with antibiotics can effectively cure the disease if detected early.
Authorities also urge the public to maintain hygiene, keep surroundings clean, and prevent rodent infestations, which can contribute to the spread of the infection.
