The Andhra Pradesh High Court has postponed the hearing on the petition filed by former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, seeking directions to be recognized as the Leader of the Opposition. The court has also directed the respondents to file a counter to the petition. The next hearing is scheduled for October 4.

Earlier, the Assembly Speaker, Ayyanna Patrudu, had denied Jagan the opposition leader status and issued a ruling on February 5, which Jagan challenged in court, claiming it was unlawful and contrary to legislative rules. Jagan’s petition emphasizes the need to follow constitutional and procedural norms in recognizing the official opposition leader in the Assembly.

This case has significant political implications in Andhra Pradesh, as it addresses representation of opposition parties and the rights of elected members under legislative rules.
