Heavy rain damages grain in Telangana after sudden midnight showers hit several districts across the state. Farmers who stored paddy and maize at procurement centres and market yards suffered major losses as rainwater soaked the grain.
The unseasonal rain brought relief from the intense summer heat, but it created serious trouble for farmers. At many IKP centres and market yards, heaps of paddy and maize got wet due to strong winds and heavy rainfall. In some places, floodwater even washed away the grain. Heavy rain damages grain in Telangana at a time when many farmers were preparing their crops for sale.
Farmers in Jagitial and Peddapalli districts said the rain damaged paddy and maize bags kept ready for weighing. They urged the government to buy the wet and discoloured grain at support prices.
Farmer unions also demanded compensation for the crop loss and asked officials to support affected families quickly.
