Security forces caught an alleged heroin smuggler with 25.9 kg of heroin in Amritsar. The arrest happened on Wednesday night during a joint operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police.
Officials said the smuggler was riding a motorcycle when the team intercepted him. They found a large bag with 23 packets of heroin. The total weight was nearly 26 kg.
The officers also seized a pistol and two magazines. The accused belongs to Beharwal village in Amritsar. Police and BSF are now questioning him to trace the supply network.
Authorities believe drug cartels use Punjab as a key route for smuggling. They warn that international gangs often push heroin into India through the border. This case highlights the scale of the problem and the constant pressure on security forces.
The BSF and Punjab Police stressed that they will continue joint operations. They aim to break the supply chain and prevent drugs from reaching young people.
