Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday reaffirmed his commitment to building ‘Bor Asom’ or Greater Assam—an inclusive and united state representing all communities—during Asom Divas celebrations. Paying tribute to Ahom kingdom founder Chaolung Sukapha, Sarma said Assam must remain strong, proud, and united as envisioned by the 13th-century leader.

He also thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for extending greetings on the occasion, noting that the Centre and state’s “double-engine government” is working to preserve Assam’s cultural and historical legacy. Shah, in his message, praised the Ahom era and highlighted progress made under the Modi government, saying Assam is emerging as a hub of education and innovation.

Sarma further announced that Sui-Ka-Pha University will be renamed Su-Ka-Pha University, calling it another step toward realising the vision of a culturally enriched and inclusive Greater Assam.
