Hyderabad Heavy Rainfall Disrupts Life, IMD Issues Orange Alert

Hyderabad faced heavy rainfall on Sunday, which disrupted daily life and caused long traffic jams across the city. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad issued an orange alert and predicted moderate to heavy rain for the next two days. Cool and misty mornings and nights are also expected.

The downpour flooded low-lying areas and stranded commuters. Huge traffic gridlocks hit Gachibowli, Hitec City, Miyapur, Sanathnagar, and Kondapur. In Asifnagar, two people went missing in a nala, and rescue teams are searching for them. Uppal, Kapra, Marredpally, Alwal, and Quthbullapur also witnessed strong showers. Prashant Nagar in Malkajgiri reported the city’s highest rainfall at 16 cm.

According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, Vivekanandapuram in Neredmet received 50 mm rain, Bandlaguda (Uppal) 47.5 mm, Mallpura ward office (Uppal) 42 mm, Kapra 37 mm, and Medpally 35 mm. Saroornagar, Musheerabad, and Himayathnagar also saw significant rain.

Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi inspected affected areas at Banjara Hills and directed officials to clear waterlogging points to reduce traffic issues.
