IAS Tina Dabi has addressed the controversy surrounding the Barmer National Water Award after social media rumours sparked criticism against the district administration. Barmer district recently received a ₹2 crore National Water Conservation Award, following which misleading posts began circulating online.

In a press conference, Barmer Collector Tina Dabi stated that the award was granted through a completely transparent and verified process. She clarified that the Government of India conducted a detailed evaluation before selecting Barmer for the national honour. The award was presented in November 2025 by President Droupadi Murmu under the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari Abhiyan.

Dabi explained that the award was based on water conservation works completed between September 2024 and March 2025. These initiatives were thoroughly reviewed at the national level before approval. Responding to viral photographs questioning the administration’s work, she said the images were linked to the “Catch the Rain” portal and had no connection with the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari portal.

She further clarified that the JSJB award follows a separate evaluation framework. Panchayat Samitis found uploading repetitive or incorrect images on the Catch the Rain portal have been identified. Strict instructions have been issued to block development officers to correct these errors.

Appealing to the public, Tina Dabi urged people not to fall for rumours. She said such misinformation damages the district administration’s image and ignores the collective effort of citizens. Senior district officials were also present at the press briefing.
