Ilaiyaraaja Moves Madras High Court to Stop Use of His Songs in ‘Dude’

Legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja has approached the Madras High Court seeking to prevent the use of his songs in the upcoming film ‘Dude’. The plea, filed as a civil suit against Hyderabad-based production company Mythri Movie Makers, requests an interim injunction to stop the unauthorised use of his musical works.
During the hearing, Justice N. Senthilkumar reserved orders on the interim injunction application, indicating that the court will examine the merits of the case before making a decision. Legal experts note that the case underscores the importance of copyright protection for artists in the film and music industries, especially in the context of digital distribution and cinematic adaptations.
Ilaiyaraaja, who has composed thousands of songs over his illustrious career, argued that the use of his music without consent violates his intellectual property rights. The court’s forthcoming decision will be closely watched, as it could set a precedent for safeguarding the rights of composers and creators in India’s entertainment sector.
