India Advocates Greater Transparency in UNSC Subsidiary Organs
India has called for enhanced transparency in the functioning of the subsidiary organs of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Speaking at the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish emphasised that greater openness and accountability are essential to strengthen the legitimacy and effectiveness of these bodies.
Highlighting the need for reform, the Indian envoy noted that transparent procedures in decision-making would not only improve trust among member states but also ensure that the Council’s subsidiary organs operate in a fair and impartial manner. Ambassador Harish underlined that this approach is crucial for addressing contemporary global challenges, ranging from peacekeeping to conflict resolution.
India’s statement aligns with its long-standing advocacy for UNSC reforms, including calls for increased inclusivity, equitable representation, and procedural transparency. By promoting open functioning, India aims to enhance the credibility of the Council’s subsidiary mechanisms and support multilateral cooperation in maintaining international peace and security.
