At the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), India strongly rejected what it called “baseless and biased” remarks in a recent report about Myanmar’s human rights situation.
The Indian Parliamentary Delegation, led by Lok Sabha MP Dr. D. Purandeswari, attended the session’s opening and paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s bust at the UN Headquarters in New York.
During a joint briefing on Myanmar, MP Dilip Saikia reaffirmed India’s support for peace through a “Myanmar-owned and Myanmar-led” process. He said long-term stability in Myanmar can only come through inclusive political dialogue and the return of democracy via credible elections.
Saikia also pointed out India’s continued humanitarian help, mentioning relief efforts like Operation Brahma and Operation Sadbhav that provided aid during natural disasters.
Rejecting parts of a report linking India’s April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack to Myanmar refugees, Saikia said the claims were false and damaging. He urged the UN rapporteur not to rely on unverified media sources.
In another UNGA session, MP Sajda Ahmed underlined India’s commitment to peace, global disarmament, and multilateral cooperation, saying India is ready to work with all nations for a safer world.
