US President Donald Trump once again attacked India over trade, calling it the “most tariffed nation” in the world. He repeated his claim that India offered to eliminate all tariffs, insisting that such an offer only came after his tough stance on trade.
Trump compared India’s tariffs to those of China and Brazil, claiming that these nations “kill” the US with their high tariffs. He said, “China kills us with tariffs, India kills us with tariffs, Brazil kills us with tariffs.” Trump also added that he understood tariffs better than anyone and credited his tariff strategy with giving the US “tremendous negotiating power.”
Trump claimed that India had made a significant offer to remove tariffs altogether, but he argued that this would never have happened without the threat of tariffs. He also criticized the trade imbalance between the two nations, stating that India sells massive amounts of goods to the US, but the US sells very little to India.
Tensions between India and the US have escalated after Trump imposed high tariffs on Indian goods, particularly following India’s purchase of Russian oil, which Trump criticized.
