India to host 5th Coast Guard Global Summit in Chennai 2027, making it a landmark event for global maritime cooperation.
The decision came at the fourth Coast Guard Global Summit (CGGS), held in Rome, Italy, from September 11–12, attended by delegates from 115 countries and international organisations. Director General Paramesh Sivamani of the Indian Coast Guard said that no single nation can address the full range of maritime challenges alone. He stressed that the Chennai summit will promote trust, interoperability, and stronger cooperation among coast guards worldwide.
The three-day event will feature an International Coast Guard Fleet Review and a World Coast Guard Seminar, creating a global platform for dialogue on maritime challenges and showcasing international unity.
During the ceremonial handover of the CGGS presidency, Sivamani praised the summit as a beacon of cooperation and thanked the Italian and Japanese Coast Guards for their support. The Chennai event will highlight India’s leadership in maritime security and global partnerships.
