India-UK Trade Deal Boosts Textile Sector

India promotes technical textiles in the UK, using CETA to expand trade, investments, and sustainable supply chain partnerships.

The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) benefits both nations. It provides secure sourcing and technology partnerships for the UK. For India, it offers market access, tariff reduction, and investor confidence. A high-level Indian delegation led by Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles, showcased India’s technical textiles in Manchester.

Rao said technical textiles are one of India’s fastest-growing sectors. Research and development, advanced manufacturing, and circular economy practices drive this growth. She highlighted India’s focus on sustainability, green manufacturing, and waste reduction under the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM). These steps strengthen India’s competitiveness in global markets.

Rao invited UK retailers and industrial users to partner with India. She emphasized India’s cost-effective and innovation-led ecosystem. The delegation visited the Manchester Fashion Institute and Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre. They explored collaborations in advanced materials, sustainable textiles, and circular fashion models.

The visit aims to expand trade, investments, and joint ventures between India and the UK. Programs such as PM MITRA mega textile parks, PLI, and NTTM build world-class infrastructure. CETA’s market access benefits support India’s goal to double textile exports by 2030 and foster a sustainable India–UK textile trade partnership.
