India told China to ensure that Indians travelling through Chinese airports are not deliberately targeted, detained or harassed. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said New Delhi expects Beijing to respect international aviation norms.

The statement came after an Arunachal Pradesh citizen, Prema Wangjom Thongdok, alleged that Chinese immigration held her for 18 hours during a short layover in Shanghai. Officials reportedly refused to accept her Indian passport and falsely claimed Arunachal Pradesh was Chinese territory.

India called the act a violation of international conventions and China’s own 24-hour visa-free transit rule. The MEA advised Indians to remain cautious while travelling through China.

New Delhi reiterated that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inalienable part of India and said no amount of denial from China can change this fact.
