Iran Protest Death Toll Crosses 500 as Authorities Call for Counter-Rally
Deaths linked to ongoing protests in Iran have crossed 500, according to a U.S.-based human rights group, as tensions continue to escalate both domestically and internationally. The group claimed that at least 490 protesters and 48 security personnel have been killed since demonstrations erupted, triggered by political and economic grievances.
Iranian authorities disputed the figures and called for a counter-rally to condemn what they described as hostile actions by the United States and Israel. State officials accused foreign powers of instigating unrest and warned Washington against any “miscalculation,” threatening retaliation if Iran’s sovereignty or security is challenged.
Security forces have intensified crackdowns in several cities, while restrictions on internet access and public gatherings remain in place. International concern has grown over the rising death toll and alleged human rights violations. Meanwhile, diplomatic tensions in the region have deepened, with analysts warning that the domestic unrest in Iran could further destabilise an already volatile Middle East.
