Israel-Hamas Conflict: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have unearthed a massive 7-kilometer-long Hamas tunnel system in Gaza, linked to the captivity of Lieutenant Hadar Goldin during the 2014 war. The tunnel, located 25 meters underground in Rafah, includes nearly 80 rooms used by Hamas leaders for command operations, weapon storage, and long-term shelter. It lies beneath sensitive civilian areas including a UNRWA compound, schools, mosques, and clinics.

This tunnel is historically significant because it was the site where Hamas kept the body of Lt. Goldin, a Givati Brigade officer killed in an ambush just two hours after a ceasefire was declared in 2014. His remains were returned to Israel earlier this month after extensive negotiations.

In a related operation, the IDF confirmed the arrest of senior Hamas operative Marwan Al-Hams, believed to have been directly involved in events surrounding Goldin’s death and aware of his burial location within the tunnel network.

The discovery highlights Hamas’s extensive underground infrastructure and underscores the ongoing volatility in Gaza, where airstrikes and conflict persist despite fragile ceasefire conditions.
