ISRO Chandrayaan-3 Data Opportunity Invites Scientific Proposals

ISRO has announced a new initiative called the ISRO Chandrayaan-3 data opportunity. The space agency invited scientists, faculty, and researchers to use the mission’s data for innovative studies. ISRO said this program will allow the Indian scientific community to analyse and apply the valuable findings from the Chandrayaan-3 lander and rover.

The Bengaluru-based organisation opened the call for proposals on Monday. Interested researchers from universities, colleges, government organisations, and research institutes can apply. The deadline for submissions is October 21.

ISRO explained that Chandrayaan-3, launched on July 14, 2023, achieved all its mission goals. The payloads gathered information on seismic activity, thermal properties, plasma environment, and elemental composition of the landing site during one lunar day. Teams studied the data and published results in peer-reviewed journals. The reviewed datasets became public on August 23, 2024.

Now, ISRO seeks fresh research ideas that can further explore the potential of the payloads. The space agency noted that earlier data from Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2 have already helped Indian scientists understand the lunar surface, sub-surface, and exosphere.

Researchers can access the Chandrayaan-3 datasets through the PRADAN portal of the Indian Space Science Data Centre at pradan.issdc.gov.in.
