ISRO Nears Completion of Gaganyaan Mission, Plans Crewed Launch in 2027
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has completed 90% of the development work for its Gaganyaan crewed space mission, according to ISRO Chairman Mr. S. Narayanan. He stated that the mission, which aims to send Indian astronauts into space, is scheduled for launch in 2027.
Ahead of the crewed flight, ISRO plans to conduct three uncrewed missions to test critical systems, including the spacecraft’s safety, navigation, and life-support technologies. These precursor missions are designed to validate vehicle performance, ensure crew safety, and address any technical challenges before astronauts are sent to space.
Mr. Narayanan emphasized that the Gaganyaan project represents a major milestone in India’s human spaceflight program, positioning the country among the few nations capable of independent crewed missions. The agency continues to collaborate with national and international partners for training, equipment development, and mission planning, highlighting India’s growing ambitions in space exploration and technological advancement.
