YSRCP president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said that there is an attempt to silence his party in the Legislative Assembly. He alleged that the ruling coalition government is deliberately denying the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party(YSRCP) recognition as the principal Opposition.
Speaking in Vijayawada, Mr. Jagan said the coalition does not want the YSRCP’s voice to be heard inside the House. He claimed that denying Opposition status is against democratic values and weakens debate in the Assembly.
He said the YSRCP will continue to raise public issues and question the government’s decisions. According to him, the Opposition has an important role in holding the government accountable.
The coalition leaders, however, have maintained that rules and numbers decide recognition. The issue has led to political tension, with both sides accusing each other of ignoring democratic norms in the Assembly.
