Jagan Approaches Governor, Threatens Legal Challenge Against PPP Medical Colleges
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday submitted a representation to Governor S. Abdul Nazeer, opposing the State government’s decision to introduce the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model for establishing medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh. Mr. Jagan termed the move detrimental to students from poor and middle-class backgrounds and alleged that it would lead to the privatisation and commercialisation of medical education.
He urged the Governor to intervene and advise the government to withdraw the decision in the larger public interest. The YSRCP chief warned that his party would challenge the policy in court if the government failed to roll it back. He said the PPP model would increase fees and limit access to affordable medical education.
Mr. Jagan reiterated that during the previous YSRCP regime, medical colleges were established entirely in the public sector to strengthen healthcare infrastructure. He accused the present government of abandoning welfare-oriented policies and said the YSRCP would continue its fight through legal and democratic means.
