A shocking theft at Jaipur’s historic Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Ashok Nagar came to light when police identified the thief as the temple’s temporary priest, Ankit. Devotees discovered the theft early in the morning and informed the police after spotting that the silver Nagaraj idols and chhatras, weighing around 2 kg, were missing.
CCTV footage from the temple revealed Ankit stealing the idols during the absence of the permanent priest, who was away in his hometown. Police investigations show that Ankit took advantage of his temporary appointment, saw the silver items, and planned the theft. After committing the crime, he fled the scene in a cab.
Ashok Nagar police have formed teams to trace the accused and claim they will arrest him soon. The incident has angered devotees, who said their faith was hurt and demanded immediate recovery of the stolen idols.
