The Bihar government will soon start Jeevika Didi Kitchen at 19 Bus Depots to provide clean, tasty, and low-cost meals to passengers and bus staff. The move aims to solve long-standing complaints about poor food quality and high prices at bus stands across the state.
Transport Minister Shrawan Kumar recently reviewed facilities at several bus depots. During his inspection, he found that food arrangements were not satisfactory. He then instructed officials to introduce Jeevika Didi Kitchens at major depots without delay.
These kitchens will operate at 19 important locations, including Patna, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Ara, Chhapra, Purnea, and Munger. More depots may join the programme in the future based on demand and success.
Women from Jeevika self-help groups will run the kitchens. They will prepare fresh, home-style meals at affordable rates. The initiative will not only help travellers but also create income opportunities for rural women.
Officials believe the scheme will improve basic facilities at bus depots and make long-distance travel more comfortable. With this step, Jeevika Didi Kitchen at 19 Bus Depots is expected to set a new standard for public food services in Bihar.
