Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said that former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh’s tenure will always be remembered for good governance, development, and strengthening the nationalist mission in the state.
Addressing a programme organised on Kalyan Singh’s 94th birth anniversary, Adityanath paid tributes to the veteran BJP leader, fondly known as “Babuji.” He recalled Singh’s role in restoring public confidence during a period marked by lawlessness and administrative instability in Uttar Pradesh.
The Chief Minister said that when Kalyan Singh became the state’s first BJP Chief Minister in 1991, Uttar Pradesh faced serious challenges. Crime was widespread, governance had weakened, and welfare schemes failed to reach the poor, farmers, women, and youth. However, Singh’s leadership brought swift change.
“Within months, people felt the state was moving towards good governance and development,” Adityanath said. He added that Singh never hesitated to sacrifice power to uphold the sentiments of Ram devotees during the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
Adityanath said Singh drew inspiration from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and remained committed to nationalist ideals throughout his life. Born into a farmer’s family, Singh rose through grassroots politics to become one of Uttar Pradesh’s most influential leaders.
Kalyan Singh served twice as Chief Minister, held key Union ministerial roles, and later served as Governor of Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh. He passed away in 2021, leaving behind a lasting political legacy.
