Kamal Haasan Urges Accountability After Karur Stampede Kills 41
Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan has issued a strong statement following the tragic stampede at a Karur rally that claimed 41 lives, urging the organisers to take full responsibility. “This is not the time for excuses. It is time to apologise and accept the mistake,” Haasan said, addressing the public outrage and grief.
The incident, triggered by overcrowding and poor crowd management, has raised serious questions about safety protocols at political events. Haasan, known for his sharp political commentary, emphasized that such tragedies are avoidable and result from negligence.
He also called for accountability from both local authorities and political organisers, demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the victims. “Public life is not a game — it carries the weight of responsibility,” he said.
The stampede has sparked nationwide debate on political rally safety and the urgent need for reform in event management practices.
