Kangana Ranaut Granted Bail in Defamation Case, Expresses Regret
Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut was granted bail on October 27, 2025, in a defamation case filed by Mahinder Kaur, a 73-year-old from Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Punjab’s Bathinda district. The case arose from a 2020 tweet where Ranaut allegedly misidentified Kaur and suggested individuals could be hired for protests.
At the Bathinda court, Ranaut expressed regret, saying, “Every ‘mata’, be she from Punjab or Himachal, is respectable to me.” She clarified her post was a retweet, not an original comment, and mentioned discussing the matter with Kaur’s husband.
The court had required her physical presence. Following her appearance, the case was transferred to an MP/MLA court, and she was granted bail on a ₹50,000 bond.
Kaur’s counsel opposed Ranaut’s plea for exemption from personal appearance. The next hearing is scheduled for November 24, 2025.
