Kangra Trekking Ban Above 3000m

Kangra Trekking Ban

Kangra trekking ban has come into force after the district administration imposed a complete prohibition on trekking activities above 3,000 metres. The Kangra District Disaster Management Authority issued the orders on January 6, 2026, keeping tourist safety as the top priority.

The Kangra trekking ban was announced by Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa, who said the administration reviews trekking guidelines regularly to prevent accidents in high-altitude areas. He added that changing weather conditions often increase risks for trekkers in the region.

The administration has also made prior permission mandatory for trekking on popular routes such as Kareri, Triund, and Adi Himani Chamunda. Trekkers must obtain approval from the office of the Superintendent of Police, Kangra, before starting their journey.

Officials clarified that if the Meteorological Department, Shimla, issues any weather warning or alert, all previously granted trekking permissions will stand cancelled automatically. This step aims to ensure quick preventive action during adverse conditions.

Disaster response agencies, including the National and State Disaster Response Forces, the Mountaineering Centre McLeodganj, and police search and rescue teams, will remain exempt from the restrictions.

The Deputy Commissioner has directed the District Tourism Officer to inform hotels, guides, and tour operators so that tourists remain aware of the ban. The move follows a recent rescue of four Delhi trekkers near the Dhauladhar range.
