MLC Kavitha has alleged that the Karnataka government is secretly planning to raise the Almatti Dam height from 519 feet to 524 feet. Speaking at the Telangana Jagruthi office in Banjara Hills , she recalled how earlier Andhra Pradesh governments had secured a Supreme Court stay against such attempts. She claimed Karnataka has now sanctioned ₹70,000 crore for land acquisition covering 1.70 lakh acres to execute the plan.
Kavitha warned that increasing the dam’s height by five meters would submerge districts in Maharashtra and deprive Telangana of Krishna river water , turning the region into a drought zone. She criticized CM Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy for remaining silent while Karnataka moved ahead.
Accusing the state government of neglecting Palamuru projects, she demanded that Telangana strongly oppose Karnataka’s move in the Krishna Tribunal and approach Sonia Gandhi to intervene with Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah.
